Vocab crunch: holidays
A complete lesson (allow an hour) to introduce or revise key French vocabulary on the topic of holidays. It starts with a quick self-assessment based on the full list of 32 words to see what students know at the start of the lesson. You may need to reassure them that this is not a test! The same list will be revisited as a plenary so that students can track their progress at the end of the activities. As their scores will show a huge improvement, this can be very motivational.
The new words are first drilled from the front, using the flashcards provided. Look for ways to help make each word memorable to the class (e.g. highlighting cognates or using actions) and make sure they can pronounce them confidently. Students then work in small groups to play competitive card games, using the vocabulary cards provided. Group them by ability to ensure that they are evenly matched, and follow the instructions provided. The winner will have the most cards at the end of the game.
