Writers Val Payne and Peter Harper give teaching suggestions for the ten keys to happier living, which is central to the Action for Happiness movement. This resource accompanies Val and Peter's article, 'Teaching emotional wellbeing skills'. In this resource, Val and Peter provide teaching activities for the 'GREAT DREAM' acronym: Giving, Relating, Exercising, Awareness, Trying out, Direction, Resilience, Emotions, Acceptance, Meaning.
Learning to accept ourselves and being kinder to ourselves when things go wrong increases our enjoyment of life.
Individual: Ask the students to think of and list all the things that they like about themselves, their strengths and/or something that they can do. Challenge them to write an advert for someone to step into their shoes for the day.
Group/class: Create strength tokens or badges and encourage the students to nominate others in the class to receive these as an award at the end of the week.
