Odd one out starter

This starter activity encourages students to discuss which word is the odd one out on each row of four and why. To make it more challenging there are in fact no right or wrong answers!
Students will have to think carefully, understand all the vocabulary and agree with their partner. The skill is in coming up with a creative justification for their choices. This could make a nice starter with a new group at the start of term, as it will get students discussing reasons with their partner, breaking the ice.
The categories of words include colours, numbers, animals, verbs, greetings and languages.
