Discussion on the things we would save to show to future generations. A thought-provoking way of doing fluency work on the subjects of books, media, music, politics, art and fashion.

An extract from the lesson plan:

Steps

  1. Explain to the class what a time safe is – a box containing a collection of items that represent the period we live in.  It is buried in the ground so that future generations will be able to understand how we used to live.

  2. Put the students in groups of four.  Tell them they are going to prepare a selection of items to put into their own time safe.

  3. Allow the groups ten minutes to make an initial selection of items.  Collect together ideas from the various groups and make a list on the board of the kinds of items the class suggest, for example: a photograph, a newspaper article, a music CD, a household gadget, a list of the most popular films and videos of the month, an item of clothing, advertisements etc.
