Controlled and free practice with extreme adjectives (limit adjectives) and intensifiers. Also practises vocabulary for free-time activities, working on semantic distinctions between 'gig' and 'concert', 'supporters' and 'fans', 'to dress up' and 'to wear fancy dress', and 'bride' and 'groom'.

Can be used to supplement New Cutting Edge Upper Intermediate, Module 7, pp.72–3 or as a stand-alone lesson.

Activity 3 Adjectives

Read the sentences below.  What sort of event or celebration is being described in each one?  Numbers 4 and 8 have been done for you.

Read the sentences again and underline/highlight all the adjectives.

Some of the adjectives have a strong meaning.  Circle them and write the normal version below each sentence.  The first one has been done for you.

1. Our seats were right at the back of the stands, so the players were tiny figures running round the pitch.
