This memory challenge activity is a 'mind reader' or 'trapdoor' task based on a short text about where someone lives.

In secret, pick one of the three options from each 'word cloud' to personalise the text. Challenge the class to guess your version of the text by nominating one student to start reading the text aloud, guessing the first word you've chosen. If they are correct, they continue reading. If not, another student takes over, starting from the beginning of the text. The winner is the first student to correctly read the whole of your version of the text.

Students could then repeat the activity in pairs, providing useful practice in reading aloud. The repetition in the process of guessing correctly embeds the key words and phrases in a fun way. Finally, they can test their memories or adapt the example with a gapped version of the text on the second slide. Full instructions are provided in the PowerPoint notes.
