This German dice game is designed to revise the topic of free time and to practise accurate translation. It can be used for speaking or writing, from German to English or vice versa. Students play in pairs or threes, rolling dice to pick a square from the grid. By translating the sentence in that square correctly, they can claim it for themselves, for example by placing a counter on it. The winner could be the first person to get six squares in a row or the person with the most squares claimed at the end of the allotted time.

You could differentiate or scaffold this activity by playing from German to English first (using the English grid as the answer sheet for the partner or a third student in the role of 'checker' to ensure that answers are correct). Alternatively, students could write their answers on mini-whiteboards to be held up for checking by the teacher or a designated student.
